Jemek Supardi, Man Without Words

Born from the dark. About thirty years ago, Pardi Kampret, now known by the name Jemek Supardi, grew up in the middle of the terminal noise Prawirotaman, Yogyakarta, the main terminal Gudeg City at that time. At night the lights are dim Tugu Station. Noon is a parking sweat along Jalan Malioboro.

Slender, long-haired with a forehead that membotak mengakrabi dark area towns. Like the other inhabitants of the world, he lives with in Sekatenan pilfer, steal jewelry corpse, cliwik gambling, playing cards, and hanging out with prostitutes on the railroad. Because of this life, the man born Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta, March 4, 1953 it had only graduated from junior high school after school instead of seven times, after not graduating from elementary school to the next grade three times, and three months of tasting Programs High School Painting Arts of Indonesia. However, the way her life changed when he knew the art.
Light Theatre
The mid-1970s, Yogya is a dynamic city of art. Malioboro met long-haired artists and sloppy. That's where people like President Malioboro Ashadi Siregar, Landung Simatupang, Renda, Emha Ainun Najib, Adi Kurdi, and Linus Suryadi Augustine hangouts. Jemek surprised to see them and suspect they're just like him, asshole dangerous to watch. But after knowing their artists - some of the Theatre Workshop Renda - Jemek young people getting interested.

Egalitarian attitude that artists and open to the outskirts of a new space for Jemek. Theatre and then began digelutinya by joining in a number of groups, such as the Natural Theatre, Theatre Dinasty, and Puppet Theatre. However, artists are not strong Jemek memorize. Theater that relies on the dialogue does not suit him. He gets at best unnecessary extras dialogue. However, this is where he developed the art of the role of the latter known as pantomime. He was diligent in watching the pantomime performances from abroad who perform there, including the masters of French mime, Marcel Marceau, who admires.

Interaction and discussion with the artists has menggemburkan arts in inner land. "The environment is as if he approved the work," said Edi Haryono, chairman and member of Bela Studio Theatre Workshop Renda that the room was visited Jemek kostnya diligent. From just a short berpantomim fill several occasions, finally Jemek single stage in 1979 in Art Sono, Yogyakarta. Then dozens of works emerged and mime into the pulse of his life.

Art Life
Biography of his life was then in a stage pantomime diringkasnya Eating friend who's become part of the show "50 Years Jemek Supardi, art Without Words" by Jemek and MIM Indonesian Institute theater in France, Yogyakarta, 5-6 March. Three of the players including compact Jemek submit biographies with dynamic movements and funny and the music that loud enough.

"It illustrates the various sides of my life, not only good but also not good," said Jemek.
Besides the number, for two hours Jemek staged five other works, Hallucinations A Painter, Welcome to Jakarta, Surgeon, Tailor Shave and Testimony Udin. He supported the three players pantomime Broto, Asita, and Win Mukti and supporting role Keken, JP and Gunter Songgolangit Kuncoro.

Hendro Suseno, the responsible performance, said Jemek has many unique sides. His past is hard and dark does not kill creativity, but just the opposite, so as to produce creative works closely with personal experience. Hallucinations A painter, for example, inspired by the life of his wife, Freda Mairayanti painter. There Jemek role as the painter who drew a dancer and dancers fantasize it really exists. This theme seems kind of variation from previous work, Painter Who Stuck His imagination (1995).

While the testimony Udin is a long work of his Powers trilogy (the other two, Pisowanan and boxes) that had shown in 1997 in Solo and Yogya. Testimony Udin is a recording of pantomime about Udin, Yogya journalist whose death still a mystery until now. Surgeons in 1997 also staged. In the 50th year stage, with little change, the work tells the doctor who dissected the patient with a saw and found the cable, mobile phone, alarm clock, and a bomb in it.

Pantomime Jemek often sensational. He was suppose berpantomim in unusual places, in the street, cemetery, railroad, and Magelang Mental Hospital. He also makes a scene when the mime is not included in the agenda of Yogyakarta Arts Festival (FKY) 1997. Then, with pantomime clothes - shirts in black and white face - he departed from his house on Jl. Katamso and ride tricycles to FKY Art Market. But, the unit security officer at Fort Vredeburg intercept and menggelandangnya. He then held a farewell Pension pantomime Pak Jemek along Malioboro. The road that was totally jammed. He also had all the Yogyakarta-Jakarta berpantomim commute by train. When the rise of the action by students demanding President Suharto's resignation, Jemek staged a silent from Yogyakarta to Jakarta.

Jemek be held Surgery lips when the Earth (1998). At that stage he was "dead" and "buried" in the Tomb Kintelan where the Heroes of the Revolution are buried. Jemek hire a pedicab driver 10 to carry 10 coffins, the coffin containing her. At the cemetery, caskets lowered and a prayer recited Rois dead. Then Jemek emerged from the coffin, took off his costume to stay berkain white, and around the tomb, asking where tombstones grave.

For Jemek, the action outside the room because of concern over the pantomime that is still underestimated. "That's my way of popularizing the art of mime as an attractive and can talk about anything, including social and political realities," said Jemek who is now her hair cut off at the front to resemble cast of Chinese martial arts movies, Jet Lee.

However, what kind of pantomime dilakoninya? Edi Haryono pantomime Jemek assess different from the Western sense. "He departed from the natural, instinctive, not contiguity with the technique," said Edi. For him, similar to the art of mime Jemek mbarang tradition that had once lived in villages of Central Java.

That should be admired from Jemek is kekonsistennya in berpantomim. "My Surprise, because her art is not about to try but life itself," said Edi. (Kurniawan / ln idayanie)
